Have you noticed that our Aloe Vera Gel is more liquid than most other Aloe Vera Gel products?
That's because we don't use a thickening agent.
The good news first:
It still works, absorbs much faster, and isn't sticky! That's because we deliberately avoid thickeners , perfumes, and fillers like glycerin.
What are thickeners?
Thickening agents are added to solutions - preferably aqueous - to increase their viscosity (thickness).Thickeners are substances primarily capable of binding water. The removal of unbound water leads to an increase in viscosity. Most thickeners are linear or branched macromolecules (such as polysaccharides or proteins) that can interact with each other through intermolecular interactions, such as hydrogen bonds, hydrophobic interactions, or ionic relationships. In the cosmetics industry, xanthan gum is often used as a thickener to make products more viscous (gel-like). It is used in numerous cosmetic products, including lotions, shampoos, toothpaste, liquid soaps, and mascara.
What exactly is xanthan gum?
Xanthan gum is a naturally occurring polysaccharide. It is produced from sugar-containing substrates using bacteria and is used as a food additive (E415) as a thickening and gelling agent. Xanthan gum is approved for use in the production of organic foods according to the EU Organic Regulation.
Why don't we use a thickening agent for our Cool Head?Quite simply: We strive to use as few ingredients as possible in all our products. In our Aloe Vera Gel, we've achieved a 99.6% Aloe Vera content, which wouldn't have been possible if we'd added thickeners. Furthermore, our Cool Head isn't sticky like some other products containing xanthan gum. This makes it easier to use, and the product absorbs more quickly and takes effect without any stickiness.
