Living vegan - easy and cool

Vegan leben - ganz easy und cool
Is your vegan diet going well? If you're enjoying the vegan thing, let's take Veganuary to the next level and live a fully vegan lifestyle. Living vegan means avoiding animal suffering as much as possible in all aspects of everyday life. What does that look like in practice? Glad you asked:
Nutrition : We're already well aware of this topic, but just a quick recap: Foods of animal origin are not on the menu.
Cosmetics : As you may have noticed, we always offer vegan options . Here too, the key is to avoid ingredients of animal origin or byproducts from the manufacturing process. When buying cosmetics, always make sure the company/product is cruelty-free (no animal testing). Look for the " Leaping Bunny " or the " rabbit with a protective hand " symbol. Cosmetic products sold in China are a red flag. In China, animal testing is mandatory for personal care and cosmetic products.
But don't forget, cruelty-free doesn't necessarily mean vegan. You should still check the ingredients (perhaps with the help of apps like CodeCheck and the PETA app).
Fashion : Wool is wonderfully warm, but of course it comes from an animal. Animal husbandry, often painful and traumatic shearing, and mulesing are very problematic in this regard. Anyone who doesn't want to contribute to this should avoid wool and similar fibers and stick to plant-based fibers and fabrics.
Petroleum-based fibers, such as polyester and acrylic, are of course more animal-friendly, but very bad for the planet. What's often overlooked is that clothing always sheds fibers when washed. This isn't a problem with cotton and similar fabrics, but textiles made from synthetic materials release large amounts of microplastics into the water.
Vegan leather is also available in environmentally friendly versions (e.g., apple leather), but it's often quite expensive. The cheaper version was called pleater 10 years ago and is practically plastic. So, not very sustainable or high-quality. Leather itself is very durable. One option, which everyone has to decide for themselves, is to buy such items secondhand. That way, at least you're not supporting a company that profits from animal suffering.
At home : Products containing animal ingredients can easily creep into your household. Pay attention to the fiber composition of textiles and avoid leather. It's also a good idea to check the label on cleaning products and similar items.

Entertainment : Planning your weekend and looking for something to do? If you like animals and don't want to support animal suffering, maybe skip the trip to the zoo or aquarium. And if you do go to the circus, check beforehand whether they use animals in their performances.
Tourist tours with horse-drawn carriages are absolutely no fun for the horses. Rent a bike instead.
If you want to see animals, check if there is an Animal Sanctuary near you.
