What's our impact?

Most of our ingredients come from nature, and this is where we want to give something back by selling our products. So every product sold plants 3m² of wildflower meadow (exception: Auf's Mäulchen donates 1 m²), and as close to your doorstep as possible. Right now we work with five partners on this: the Ayinger Kräutergarten in Bavaria, Gut Wulfsdorf near Hamburg, Hof Nagel in Hesse, Hof Becker near Cologne and the Burgwallhof near Berlin. Depending on the project, perennial wildflower meadows are sown in spring and sometimes again in autumn - which means the meadow is mown once a year, but the flowers keep growing back for up to five years. You might know the principle from your own garden.
Why did we go for wildflower meadows ? For one, they're essential for bees – our hard-working colleagues, without whom one important part of many of our products wouldn't exist: beeswax. But wildflower meadows aren't only a safe haven for bees, they're one for all sorts of insects, birds and small animals too. These suffer a lot from the way conventional farming is sometimes done. Among other things, the intensification of monocultures, pesticides and chemical-synthetic fertilisers keep eating away at biodiversity, and that has far-reaching consequences for nature. So there are fewer and fewer bees and wild bees to pollinate plants, food chains for birds and the like get interrupted because there are fewer insects, and other important jobs can no longer get done either. Did you know, for example, that by breaking down dead biomass insects have a massive effect on how fertile soils are, and that they're also involved in the self-cleaning processes of bodies of water?
By planting wildflower meadows and flower strips next to fields, badly needed habitats are created again, giving biodiversity a little nudge. Flower strips along the edges of fields also mean that less fertiliser - and the veterinary medicines sometimes contained in it - gets washed into the environment. The flower strips even help break those down biologically.
With our wildflower meadow projects we try to create a cycle that makes sense. With our products we keep the impact on the environment as small as possible, and through the wildflower meadows we create, we give something back directly too. That's why we only use a few, carefully chosen ingredients and make our products without plastic. So with our wildflower meadow projects you can give nature a little something back on top.
