Our Naseweiss Sunscreen — Perfect for Van Life

On the road from Mexico to Canada – Anne and Anna are driving through North America in their van „Berta“, and our SPF50 sunscreen is along for the ride.

It was actually meant to kick off back in 2020. Then the pandemic came along and threw their plans off course for a while. In November 2021 the two could finally set off and shipped their van „Berta“ to Mexico.

By the time of the interview the two had already covered 10,000 km through Mexico and were just then in the USA. By November they want to have reached Canada.

Eco-conscious van life

Before the big tour, Anne and Anna had already travelled around Europe. That's how they learned what they really need in the van. What works and what doesn't. To prepare for the long trip they then rebuilt their van to be as „self-sufficient“ as possible: they produce their own electricity, among other things via solar panels. And thanks to the built-in drinking-water filters for the camper they can drink water from any source. That means the two no longer have to buy any water in plastic bottles. In general the two are very mindful about the whole topic of water. While water flows from the tap in endless amounts in normal households, in the van it's a noticeably limited resource.

Anna and Anne also thought about how they could offset their trips with Berta. They decided to compensate for their tour.

Naseweiss on tour

While spring is only slowly arriving in Germany, the two are getting plenty of sun right now in the USA. So sun protection absolutely cannot be missing!

Before the trip they asked themselves: which sunscreen do we take with us? Anna generally has a fairer skin type and therefore needs a high protection factor. Criterion number two in the sunscreen question: it has to be a sunscreen that's harmless to water ecosystems. The cenotes in Mexico, for example, are protected. Chemical sunscreens are banned there because they endanger and destroy underwater life.

So only a mineral sunscreen that protects skin AND the environment was an option. The Naseweiss meets both criteria. On top of that it's plastic-free and handily packaged. That's why the Naseweiss made it into the travel luggage to North America.

Top tips for a weekend in the van

1: Take little with you. It's much nicer to travel with light luggage. A bit of food, water, a few clothes and the hiking boots into the camper and off you go!

2: The wildest roads often lead to the best spots.

3: Just enjoy it. If something does come up, you'll always find help from other campers and locals. Everyone sticks together and helps each other out.

And one more important final point: please take your rubbish back with you! That way you protect the environment, and the camper after you gets to enjoy the lovely spot again too!
