Climbing with cracked hands? Solid hand cream with beeswax repairs, protects and holds up.
Chalk, abrasion, extreme grip – climber's hands are a category of their own. What regular hand creams can't manage, a concentrated beeswax cream can: build a real protective layer, seal cracks, regenerate skin. No water, no chemicals, no fluff.

What climbers' hands go through – and why regular creams don't help
Anyone who boulders or climbs regularly knows it: after training, your hands are rough, red, sometimes torn open. Chalk intensively strips moisture from the skin, friction contact with the rock or climbing wall grinds down the upper skin layer, and flappers – pieces of detached skin – become a constant companion. Regular hand creams from the drugstore relieve briefly but don't solve the problem.
The reason: conventional creams consist of 60–80 % water. Right after applying they feel soft – but the water evaporates, and what's left is often less than before, because the emulsifiers in the cream temporarily soften your skin's natural protective barrier.
What stresses climbers' hands every day
Chalk (magnesium carbonate) – actively strips moisture from the skin, drying out fingertips and palms in particular
Mechanical abrasion – holds, edges, slopers grind down the skin and make it prone to cracking
Flappers & cracks – especially on the knuckles and in the grip crease area
Frequent hand washing – between routes, after training – attacks the skin's protective film
Cold & indoor air drafts – the air in climbing gyms is often dry, putting additional stress on the skin
What climbers' hands need is not a watery lotion – but real, concentrated care that restores the skin's protective layer, seals cracks and supports regeneration overnight.
Why solid hand cream with beeswax works – where others fail
Beeswax (Cera Alba) is one of the most effective natural substances for stressed skin. It forms a wafer-thin, breathable protective layer over the skin – like a second skin. This layer locks in moisture, keeps mechanical stress at bay and gives your skin time to regenerate.
Our solid hand cream combines beeswax with olive oil, aloe vera and St John's wort – four ingredients that complement each other: the wax protects, the oil nourishes, the aloe vera delivers moisture from the plant, and St John's wort soothes irritated skin. The result is not a quick fix, but a repair you feel after two to three days.
No water in the formula
Water dilutes. Our solid hand cream contains no added water – this means the active ingredients are more concentrated and the cream needs no preservatives. One stick lasts for months.
The ingredients – and what they do for climbers' hands
Four main ingredients, no long chemical lists:
Beeswax
Cera Alba
Creates a breathable protective layer over the skin, seals small cracks and protects against further drying out. Has been known in folk medicine for thousands of years.
Olive oil
Olea Europaea Fruit Oil
Rich in vitamin E and fatty acids. Penetrates deep into the skin, nourishes and makes it supple – without a greasy film on the surface.
Aloe Vera
Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice
Delivers moisture, cools irritated spots and supports the skin's natural regeneration after abrasion and dryness.
St John's wort
Hypericum Perforatum Extract
Traditionally known for its soothing effect on irritated and stressed skin. Particularly valuable for flappers and chafed areas.
Sunflower oil
Helianthus Annuus Seed Oil
Light carrier oil with a high linoleic acid content. Strengthens the skin barrier and creates a pleasant, non-sticky skin feel.
Step by step: how to care for climbers' hands correctly
Good hand care for climbers is not a one-off application – it's a short routine you make a habit of after training. Here is our recommended protocol:
1
Wash & dry hands
After training, wash off chalk and dirt completely first. Then dry your hands carefully – don't rub, pat dry. Moisture trapped under the cream can reduce its effectiveness.
2
File calluses (once a week)
Use a pumice stone or callus file to remove overly thick areas. Caution: don't remove too much – a moderate callus protects while climbing. The goal is even thickness, not excessive removal.
3
Apply solid hand cream
Warm the stick briefly in your hands – body heat softens the cream. Apply directly to all dry spots, fingertips, knuckles and especially onto cracks. Gently massage in.
4
Leave on overnight
The most intensive regeneration happens while you sleep. Apply in the evening before bed – optionally pull thin cotton gloves over for an intensive care night. Cracks heal, skin rebuilds.
5
Between sessions: instant care
The solid stick fits in any climbing bag. Treat small scrapes or early-stage flappers directly after the route – this stops small injuries from growing bigger.
Pro tip from the climbing community
The combination of evening care and targeted callus management is the difference between hands that split open after two training sessions and ones that hold up. Consistency beats intensity.
Why forpeople – and not the hand cream from the drugstore?
The difference lies in the philosophy. Conventional creams are optimised for maximum immediate effect – the skin feels soft briefly, but the effect doesn't last. At forpeople we think differently: fewer ingredients, more effect, no fillers.
What the ingredients can do – short & straightforward
Beeswax (Cera Alba) forms an occlusive protective layer that significantly reduces transepidermal water loss (TEWL) – without clogging pores.
Olive oil contains squalene and oleuropein – compounds that act as antioxidants and strengthen the skin barrier at a cellular level.
Aloe vera gel contains polysaccharides that improve skin hydration and soothe irritated areas – demonstrated in several wound healing studies.
St John's wort extract (Hypericum Perforatum) contains hypericin and hyperforin – known for their skin-soothing effect on scrapes and irritated skin.
On top of that: the solid form is not a marketing gimmick. It reduces packaging waste, is TSA-compliant for travelling to the climbing crag, and the dosage is more precise – you take exactly as much as you need, no overdosing, no spillage.
Our hand cream is also developed without animal testing and made in Germany – in small batches that ensure quality. No industrial product filled in a factory by the thousands.

What climbers say – real reviews
★★★★★
"I boulder four times a week and my hands were a disaster. Since I started using the stick in the evenings, flappers heal significantly faster and the skin is no longer so brittle. Sounds simple, but it really works."
— Marlene K., boulderer for 6 years
★★★★★
"Finally a cream that doesn't get wiped off after two minutes. The beeswax stays on the skin and actually protects. I take the stick on climbing trips too – fits perfectly in the bag."
— Tobias R., outdoor climber
★★★★★
"I was sceptical about the solid form, but the first try convinced me. Just 2–3 strokes, massage in, done. No chemicals, no plastic waste, smells pleasantly neutral. I'll keep buying it."
— Sandra F., climbing gym Munich

The products – find your format
Depending on your use, the solid hand cream comes in different forms:
Solid hand cream beeswax – all variants
Solid hand cream – beeswax
from €9.90 / unit · The classic stick for the climbing bag
We recommend applying after training or in the evening, not immediately before climbing. Directly before climbing, oily residue can reduce grip. The cream works best as post-training or overnight care.
For fresh, open flappers you should first keep the wound clean and, if needed, gently fold back the detached skin. Once the wound is closed (after 24–48 hours), the cream can support regeneration. For deeper or strongly irritated spots we recommend using our pine salve with larch resin balm in addition.
With daily use (2–3 strokes per application) one stick lasts 6–10 weeks. Because you can control the dosage very precisely, you use significantly less than with a conventional cream from a jar – no overdosing, no spillage.
Yes. The combination of olive oil and beeswax penetrates even thicker callus layers and makes them more supple over time. For best results: gently exfoliate with a pumice stone once a week, then massage in the cream. This keeps calluses firm, but not brittle.
Yes. Since there are no synthetic fragrances, parabens or emulsifiers, the cream is well-tolerated even for sensitive skin. If you have a known allergy to beeswax or pollen products, please test first or switch to the vegan variant with candelilla wax.
The beeswax cream contains Cera Alba, olive oil, aloe vera and St John's wort – classic, intensive care. The vegan variant with bergamot uses candelilla wax (a plant-based equivalent) and shea butter, and has a delicate scent. The care effect is comparable, the character slightly different.
Absolutely. Cold-induced cracks on the knuckles or palms are caused by the sudden change between cold and dry. The beeswax provides a particularly helpful protective barrier here. Apply in the evening, optionally overnight with cotton gloves – noticeable improvement within a few days.
Yes. Anywhere hands are put under heavy stress: CrossFit, gymnastics, weightlifting, kayaking, surfing, cycling. Wherever abrasion, chalk or grips stress the skin, the cream works. Also very popular for trade professions, gardening or cold winter sports.
There is a very subtle, natural honey-wax scent – no intrusive perfume. After absorbing, the scent is barely noticeable. If you'd like an aromatic scent, you can alternatively choose the vegan variant with bergamot.
Made in Germany, in small batches. Short supply chains, controlled quality. We avoid mass production – that means every stick is made with care and checked before it leaves the house.
